Compared to other Central American countries, Costa Rica has a relatively high standard of living. However, Puerto Limon is an industrial area with a lower standard than the rest of the country. There are a lot of foreigners in this area. The chief industries in Costa Rica are Tourism, Computer Component Manufacturing, Pineapple and Banana exports, and as an alternative route to the Panama Canal. The distance between the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean is about 100 miles, and on any given day you can see literally hundreds of semi-trucks hauling containers between ports, which transfer goods without having to traverse the Panama Canal.
There are a lot of excursions in this port, and you may wish to visit more than once. The excursions are varied and include water activities, rainforest visits, and pineapple and banana plantation visits.
