The following is a list of luggage we take on board:
- 25" wheeled check-thru for him.
- 25" wheeled check-thru for her.
- 44" wheeled horizontal check-thru garment bag - shared.
- medium backpack carry-on for her, containing medication, change of clothes, swim wear, jewelry.
- Toiletry case, to be packed inside the medium backpack.
- Photo backpack carry-on for him.
- Sling-bag to be packed empty into check-thru luggage.
- Small document case.
- netbook with case, having custom straps that attaches to the photo backback. It even features a cute little compass attached to the outside of the case should I get lost...
Document Case
This is a High Sierra brand TVL-10 document case, which measures 10" x 6.5" closed. Inside the case there are several pockets where I keep all of the cruise documentation, passports, receipts, parking token, check-thru luggage keys, and even my car keys after we arrive on board. The handle clips closed with a snap swivel for attachment to the photo backpack.
BackpackThis is a High Sierra brand backpack. It is just the right size for packing a change of clothes and swimsuits for two people, our medication, jewelry, and toiletry kit. To obtain a unique identification, we have added a couple of tags, which will be discussed below.
Photo Sling BagThis is a Tamrac Velocity 6x photo bag that gets packed empty in the check-thru luggage. One nice feature of this bag is that it supports Tamrac's "MAS" system, which consists of modules that can attach to the bag. I'll explain this later.
Cool Luggage TagsAs I had mentioned, make your bag look unique. I have done this with two tags; one that says "Remove Before Flight" (my son says one day, we'll find our baggage left on the tarmac at the airport), and the other is a lazer etched heavy aluminum tag, measuring 2" x 4". We secured the tag to a split-ring using 1/2" nylon webbing and our sewing machine. Those tags you buy at the store are simply whimpy compared to this tag. This one will not likely fall off. The etching shows the outline of our boat on the front, and our name, and home and cell phone numbers on the reverse.
Believe it or not, I bought both of these on eBay, and they were quite reasonable, and come in several different colors (the wife's tags are pink, mine are red). I'm not providing a source as on eBay, they tend to change over time, and you should be able to easily find one of the vendors.
Photo BagThis is a Tamrac Adventure 75 Model 5375 photo backpack I carry on board. This bag features a system where Tamrac modules can be added to the exterior of the bag to carry additional equipment. I have nearly a dozen different modules that depending on where we are going, I can take the equipment I need. For instance, should we want to go snorkeling, I'll take a module containing the waterproof camera. Otherwise I can leave that module at home. This bag stays in my stateroom, the modules that I take ashore are attached to the Velocity 6x Sling-bag mentioned above. I have modified other bags to attach to the backpack that contain useful items such as umbrellas and my netbook. As I discussed earlier, I have a custom-made red aluminum luggage tag.
This bag setup is involved enough that I have devoted a project just to the camera bag system.
