2010 Issue 1

Welcome to my Website
Jan 1, 2010

The purpose of this web site is to promote boat project ideas. Herein you will find some 30+ boat projects that I have done on my boats. The intent of these projects is to give you an idea of what is involved in a particular project, and most importantly, to give you the confidence in doing your own boat project.

If you become convinced to do a boat project you find here, I expect that you would simply use my projects as a catalyst for your own project. I have found that by doing your own research, you will gain a tremendous amount of skill and knowledge when completing your own project. My hope is that you will use the information here as a basis for forming your own ideas rather than copying my projects step-by-step.

Some of the projects within this site are somehwat dated, and are several years old. I will identify the date of each project so that you know when they were completed. Although the older projects may not have the specific equipment available anymore, the underlying concept should still be sound. For instance, in the VHF/GPS project, the specific VHF radio and GPS display hardware may no longer be available, but the concept of interfacing them is still sound.

I have personally constructed every project on this website, often with the help of my boating-partner and wife. I do not work in the boating industry; I am just a boater that was not afraid to use a sawsall on my boat. But I have done extensive research for each project that I have done. For instance, if I drill holes in the boat, I have thoroughly researched how to keep from damaging the boat. Or, if I do an electrical project, I have researched the USCG regulations to ensure the wiring is done safely and up to standards. I also have access to some of the ABYC (American Boating and Yacht Council) Standards, and use them in the research phase of each project I do. My main emphasis is to do the project correctly and safely.

In the last few years, I have written approximately 12 boat project articles for two different boating magazines. Since that time, I have decided to independantly publish subsequent works on this web site.

In the coming weeks ahead, I will be adding completed projects, new upcoming projects, as well as commentary on many boating related topics. So please bookmark this site and check in often.

While this is not a commercial site - in that I will not sell any of the information here, I will be actively checking my email, so please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, or to offer comments on new projects you would like to see.

Happy boating...
